E-Dea s.r.l., Company leader in Italy and Europe for cutting-edge solutions and technologies for the transportation market, has signed the agreement for implementing the integrated booking and check-in system ISPS compliant with the leading Norwegian Ferry-Cruise Company Color Line AS.

With its 4,5 millions carried passengers in 2006, 3821 employees and ten served ports between Norway, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, Color line AS represents the Norwegian biggest Ferry-Cruise Company, one of the most important leaders in the European Ferry/Cruise market.

The agreement signed with E-Dea is part of a wider internal project established by Color line and called NBI regarding with the implementation of a cutting-edge booking and check-in platform and a new Internet website capable of supporting the development of business strategies for the years to come and new revenue optimization models for marketing the products and services the Company provides for.

E-Dea is responsible for providing the application “core” of the whole project by implementing an solution highly customized according to Color Line requirements and based on the technologies used for its proprietary products eBooking® and eBoarding®.

Having signed this new contract, E-Dea extends its customers portfolio that now includes the most important Italian and European maritime transportation Companies and the most important Mediterranean Port Authorities.

From the technology standpoint, E-Dea solution for Color line represents a cutting-edge enterprise application  based on Java EE  (EJB 3.0) technology supported by a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) for supporting communication and integration through SOAP-XML with several external systems.

The web interface developed on AJAX technology contributes to make the solution the most technological advanced integrated booking and check-in system that the market currently offers for the maritime transportation sector.

Reliability, performance and scalability of the IT environment is guaranteed by using the BEA WEBLOGIC 10 as Application Server and DBMS ORACLE 10g in RAC mode (Real Application Clusters).

E-Dea designed the whole system environment for providing scalability without any slowdowns in response timing up to 10 millions passengers a year and thousands of concurrent users during traffic peaks.
